Learning Goals
Students will be able to explain how hydroponic systems model the cycling of water through Earth's systems driven by sunlight and gravity.
Students will be able to develop and revise a small-scale hydroponic system that conserves water and supports plant growth.
Students will be able to analyze how design choices affect water distribution, sunlight capture, and plant health in a hydroponic setup.
Students will be able to communicate findings about their hydroponic system’s design, performance, and connection to the water cycle during a science fair presentation.

Hydroponic System Design Notebook and Science Fair Explanation
Students submit an individual design notebook that documents their hydroponic system model, observations, revisions, and evidence of how it reflects the water cycle. They also deliver a short oral explanation at the science fair to demonstrate personal mastery of the content.
Group Hydroponic System Build and Sustainability Demonstration
Teams design, build, test, and present a functioning hydroponic system that conserves water and supports plant growth. The team demonstration shows collaborative problem-solving and explains how the system models the cycling of water through Earth's systems.
