Students will immerse themselves in the works of African American artists, exploring how art can convey cultural identity and inspire change, while connecting these themes to their own experiences and recognizing the importance of addressing arts education challenges in their communities.

Students will engage in research and analysis of African American artists' works at the Schomburg Center to deepen their understanding of the Elements of Art and cultural identity, providing a foundation for their own creative compositions in the next phase.

Students will design and create their own art compositions, drawing inspiration from African American artists and applying the Elements of Art, to develop pieces that will be showcased in a school mini-exhibition, thereby building on their analysis from the previous phase and setting the stage for sharing their work with the community.

Students will curate and set up their mini-exhibition at the school, evaluate their art pieces alongside selected works of African American artists, and gather feedback from peers and community members on the impact and effectiveness of their artistic expressions in engaging cultural identity discussions.

Students will present their curated mini-exhibition, showcasing their own compositions inspired by African American artists and reflecting on the impact of their art on cultural identity and community dialogue.
