Launch
Students will launch a shared investigation into how artists communicate culture, traditions, stories, and feelings. They will gather picture-based evidence from artist videos, artwork reproductions, a world map, safe art materials, and a community guest, then use observations to develop questions for future art-making.
Days 1 - 2
Explore & Plan
Explore & Plan
Students will investigate how six featured artists use art elements, materials, and techniques to communicate purposes, ideas, and stories. They will collect picture-based evidence, learn from a community guest, compare media, and develop a peer-reviewed plan for an original artist-inspired artwork.
Days 3 - 8
Create & Document
Create & Document
Students will create and document six original, artist-inspired portfolio works, use visual evidence to explain their choices, exchange peer feedback, and connect art techniques with personal stories and cultural contexts.
Days 9 - 13
Revise & Curate
Revise & Curate
Students will use observation, peer feedback, and evidence from artist videos to revise one portfolio artwork, choose a gallery piece, create a teacher-scribed label, and plan an inclusive hallway display. Each session begins with a 2β3 minute, teacher-obtained and pre-screened clip revisiting a featured artist, culture, purpose, or technique.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
Students will rehearse evidence-based gallery talks, improve them through peer feedback, and present selected artwork to families, caregivers, community artists, and classmates. They will conclude by comparing their work with its artist inspiration and reflecting on cultural respect, artistic choices, and learning.
