Learning Goals
Students will be able to develop and use models of the Earth–Sun–Moon system, lunar polar illumination, gravity, and solar-system scale to explain scientific conditions shaping lunar exploration and resource decisions.
Students will be able to analyze experimental data and particle models about lunar materials, thermal energy, changes of state, chemical reactions, and conservation of mass to justify conclusions about using resources on the Moon.
Students will be able to investigate forces, motion, collisions, kinetic energy, and potential energy to explain and graph relationships relevant to safe lunar movement and engineering.
Students will be able to evaluate scientific data and multiple credible sources about lunar resources, heritage, the Outer Space Treaty, the Moon Agreement, and the Artemis Accords to distinguish strong evidence from unsupported or biased claims.
Students will be able to construct and defend an argument about fair lunar governance using a clear claim, scientific and legal evidence, explicit reasoning, citations, and a fair counterargument with rebuttal.
Students will be able to collaborate across perspectives to negotiate and revise a Model COPUOS Moon resolution that balances scientific opportunity, safety, heritage, environmental responsibility, and representation in international decision-making.
Products
Lunar Governance Scientific Evidence Dossier and Civic Advocacy Letter
Each learner independently compiles models, investigation data, graphs, credibility-checked research notes, citations, and personal analysis, then writes a Civic Advocacy Letter with a defensible claim, warrants, counterargument, and rebuttal for a real decision-maker. The dossier documents revisions based on self-checks, peer critique, and expert feedback.
Moon Science Research Poster and Model COPUOS Resolution Defense
Each delegation synthesizes members’ evidence into a scientific poster and a revised Moon resolution, then publicly defends its methods, findings, policy choices, trade-offs, and responses to counterarguments at the Moon Futures Summit. The presentation culminates in questions from community partners and a simulated UN General Assembly vote by families.
