Learning Goals
Students will be able to explain how mold, cast, and amber fossils form through processes that preserve evidence of plants and animals over long periods of time.
Students will be able to document observations from safe fossil-model investigations to distinguish observed evidence from ideas inferred from that evidence.
Students will be able to compare mold, cast, and amber fossil models to identify patterns in how different materials preserve evidence of organisms.
Students will be able to compose and illustrate a sequenced first-person fossil-discovery narrative that combines accurate scientific details with descriptive storytelling.

Fossil Investigation Journal and Illustrated Discovery Narrative
Each student records questions, labeled model observations, comparisons, and an evidence-based explanation of how mold, cast, and amber fossils form, then writes and illustrates a sequenced first-person fossil-discovery narrative using accurate science details.
Fossil Formation Museum Investigation Display
Teams synthesize members’ evidence into a museum display featuring safe mold, cast, and amber fossil models, a visual comparison of findings, and a shared explanation of patterns, limitations, and conclusions. Team members present the display as paleontologists and use descriptive storytelling to guide visitors through a fossil discovery.
