You will investigate: How can you use angles to make better decisions in Fortnite battles?
Build Fortnite-inspired battle plans using constructed angles, radians, functions, sequences, and inverse functions.
Angles are the space between two lines or paths.
Use your models to explain choices about aim, movement, distance, and positioning.
Reflect on which strategy fits your play style and revise it using evidence.
Learning goals
I can write functions for Fortnite battle decisions using angles, distance, and movement. Functions are rules that connect inputs and outputs. I can find inverse functions and explain how they reverse a battle calculation. Inverse functions undo the first rule and bring you back to the start. I can connect recursive and explicit formulas for arithmetic and geometric game patterns. Recursive formulas show the next term from the previous term. Explicit formulas show any term directly. I can measure unit-circle arcs in radians and construct bisected angles, perpendicular lines, and parallel lines. Radians measure angle size by arc length on a circle. I can test strategies, explain my choices, and reflect on my strengths as a problem solver.
Standards
[Colorado] HS.F-BF.B.4 - Find inverse functions.
[Colorado] HS.F-BF.A.2 - Write arithmetic and geometric sequences both recursively and with an explicit formula, use them to model situations, and translate between the two forms.
[Colorado] HS.F-BF.A.1 - Write a function that describes a relationship between two quantities.
[Colorado] HS.F-TF.A.1 - (+) Use radian measure of an angle as the length of the arc on the unit circle subtended by the angle.
[Colorado] HS.G-CO.D.12 - Make formal geometric constructions with a variety of tools and methods (compass and straightedge, string, reflective devices, paper folding, dynamic geometric software, etc.). *Copying a segment; copying an angle; bisecting a segment; bisecting an angle; constructing perpendicular lines, including the perpendicular bisector of a line segment; and constructing a line parallel to a given line through a point not on the line.*
Competencies
Academic Mindset - Students establish a sense of place, identity, and belonging to increase self-efficacy while engaging in critical reflection and action.
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Students consider a variety of innovative approaches to address and understand complex questions that are authentic and important to their communities.
Products
You will create a Fortnite battle map with constructed angles, paths, and radian measurements. Angles are the spaces between two lines. You will model how angles affect distance, timing, or predicted outcomes with functions. Functions are rules that match inputs to outputs. You will write one sequence recursively and explicitly. You will find and explain the inverse of one function. Your final strategy guide will compare options. It will defend decisions. It will include a brief personal reflection.
Launch
How can you use angles to make better decisions in Fortnite battles?
Study a battle map showing cover, ramps, and two possible attack paths.
Measure each path’s angle with a protractor and predict the stronger choice.
Compare choices with a partner and explain one strength in each argument.
Revise your prediction, then save your marked map as project evidence.
Exhibition
Create an individual Battle Angle display with a map, decision guide, and math model.
Show constructed angles, radian measures, a function and inverse, and one modeled sequence.
