Learning Goals
Students will be able to explain the purposes, storage requirements, and restocking needs of supplies in modern home and school first aid kits using principles of preparedness and setting-specific risk.
Students will be able to analyze how locally relevant natural hazards and Earth systems influence emergency scenarios and first aid supply needs at homes and schools.
Students will be able to demonstrate hands-only CPR on training manikins, recognize stroke warning signs, and identify when to seek adult or emergency help using safe response protocols.
Students will be able to evaluate and refine home and school first aid kit designs using prioritized criteria, test evidence, and trade-offs involving safety, cost, reliability, accessibility, storage, and environmental and social impacts.
Students will be able to justify collaborative first aid kit design decisions and revisions through evidence-based explanations, shared decision-making, public questioning, and reflection.

First Aid Kit Engineering Research and Decision Notebook
Each student independently documents first aid and hazard research, safe CPR and stroke-response knowledge, at least three annotated kit concepts, and a weighted comparison of home and school options. The notebook explains supply purposes, criteria, trade-offs, simulated test evidence, peer feedback, revisions, and the student's contribution to the team design.
Layered Home-and-School First Aid Kit Design and Ready for Anything Fair Station
Each team creates revised removable-layer diagrams with labeled supply slots for home and school kits, supported by a before-and-after comparison board and evidence from safe simulated testing against prioritized criteria. At the fair, students explain supply purposes, natural-hazard preparedness, CPR and stroke-response guidance, trade-offs, and revisions while answering guest questions and reflecting on collaboration.
