Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to create a scaled engineering drawing of a geometric part using aligned orthogonal views, an isometric view, appropriate line types, dimensions, notes, and a title block to communicate shape, size, fit, and function clearly and unambiguously.

2

Students will be able to construct and document geometric features using compass-and-straightedge methods and sequences of rotations, reflections, or translations to produce accurate, aligned representations of a part.

3

Students will be able to test and refine an engineering drawing against physical constraints and peer reconstruction evidence to improve its clarity, accuracy, and buildability.

Individual Dimensioned Engineering Drawing Packet

Each student creates a concept sketch and scaled drawing of a geometric part with orthogonal and isometric views, formal constructions, a specified transformation sequence, line types, dimensions, notes, and a title block. The packet includes a brief justification of how the drawing meets physical constraints and avoids ambiguity.

Build-from-the-Drawing Reconstruction and Revised Technical Drawing

Pairs use members’ drawings to select or combine design features, reconstruct a part without seeing the original, record ambiguities, and revise the technical drawing based on test evidence. They exhibit the reconstructed part and final drawing while explaining its transformations, constructions, design trade-offs, and improvements in clarity, fit, and function.
