Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to formulate a testable question about campus temperature and humidity patterns using the concept of microclimates.

2

Students will be able to design a systematic sensor-based method for comparing campus locations using the concepts of variables, consistent measurement, and reliability.

3

Students will be able to write and debug Python or block-based programs that store, sort, and process temperature and humidity readings using variables, lists, loops, and conditionals.

4

Students will be able to analyze tables, graphs, and dashboard visualizations of schoolyard weather data using the concept of patterns across campus microclimates.

5

Students will be able to justify a shade-tree planting recommendation with collected evidence using the concept of data-supported claims.

6

Students will be able to evaluate limitations, anomalous readings, and conflicting findings in the campus weather investigation using the concepts of precision, reliability, and intellectual honesty.

Products

individual

Schoolyard Microclimate Investigation Notebook

Each student documents question development, sensor locations, method decisions, raw data or source notes, code and debugging records, individual graphs, analysis, limitations, and an evidence-based shade-tree recommendation.

team

Interactive Campus Weather Dashboard and Shade-Tree Recommendation Presentation

Teams combine members’ evidence into an interactive dashboard and presentation for the principal or facilities team, explaining their methods, code, visualized microclimate patterns, recommendation, anomalous or conflicting findings, limitations, and new questions.
