Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to formulate a focused, investigable question about how an environmental factor or seed variety influences seed germination and early plant growth.

2

Students will be able to design a controlled seed-germination investigation that identifies the independent variable, dependent variable, controlled variables, and consistent measurement procedures.

3

Students will be able to document germination and seedling growth using dated observations, photographs, measurements, data tables, and graphs.

4

Students will be able to investigate plant needs and growth factors using several credible sources and generate focused follow-up questions from research and experimental findings.

5

Students will be able to construct an evidence-based scientific explanation of how environmental and genetic factors influence seed germination and plant growth.

6

Students will be able to evaluate productive collaboration by explaining how shared decisions, active listening, role fulfillment, patience, feedback, and conflict resolution affected the investigation.

Individual Seed Germination Investigation Notebook

Each student maintains an investigation record containing question development, variable and method decisions, dated observations, measurements, graphs, notes from several credible sources, personal analysis, limitations, follow-up questions, and a scientific explanation. The notebook concludes with a reflection on the student’s contributions, patience, use of feedback, and effectiveness as a collaborator.

Seed Germination Investigation Slideshow and Showcase Presentation

Each team presents its safely conducted germination investigation through a slideshow that synthesizes members’ records into methods, photographs, data visualizations, research, evidence-based findings about environmental and genetic factors, anomalies, limitations, and new questions. Shared speaking roles and a teamwork reflection demonstrate how members made decisions, resolved challenges, and built on one another’s ideas.
