Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to formulate and investigate a focused question about the growth, structures, pollinators, habitats, or human uses of common flowers by synthesizing evidence from several credible sources and generating related follow-up questions.

2

Students will be able to construct an evidence-based scientific explanation of how photosynthesis in flowering plants cycles matter and transfers energy, distinguishing the reproductive role of flowers from the photosynthetic role of green plant structures such as leaves.

3

Students will be able to analyze how 10 common flowers and their relationships with pollinators, habitats, people, and other organisms contribute to biodiversity and human life.

4

Students will be able to communicate and revise a research-supported explanation of why flowers matter, using source attribution, scientific visuals, peer feedback, and reflection on how their understanding of nature changed.

Flower Investigation Notebook and Scientific Explanation

Each student documents a focused research question, notes and citations from several sources, follow-up questions, evidence analysis, labeled scientific visuals, and an explanation connecting flowering plants to photosynthesis, biodiversity, and human life. The notebook concludes with revisions based on feedback and a reflection on how the student’s understanding changed and why people learn about nature.

Ten Common Flowers Field Guide and Multimedia Investigation Presentation

Teams synthesize members’ research into an illustrated book about 10 common flowers and a multimedia presentation explaining flower growth, plant reproduction, photosynthesis, biodiversity, and human connections with evidence and visuals. The presentation identifies limitations or conflicting findings, poses new questions, and communicates how peer feedback shaped the final work.
