Learning Goals
Students will be able to test birdhouse materials for strength, insulation, and resistance to rain, wind, and sun using systematic evidence to compare performance.
Students will be able to evaluate competing birdhouse designs for bird safety, durability, appearance, and support of local biodiversity using jointly developed criteria and constraints.
Students will be able to design, construct, test, and revise a functional birdhouse by applying material evidence, scientific principles, and stakeholder feedback throughout an iterative engineering cycle.
Students will be able to justify birdhouse design decisions with labeled diagrams, test data, reflection, and clear explanations of how the solution meets agreed-upon criteria.

Birdhouse Engineering Design Notebook
Each student documents material-test data, multiple annotated design sketches, a criteria-based comparison of solutions, labeled design details, and stop-and-jot reflections explaining revisions, scientific reasoning, and teamwork learning.
Tested Birdhouse Prototype and Evidence Presentation
Each team builds and revises a functional birdhouse, then exhibits it with a labeled diagram and concise presentation showing test evidence, trade-offs, stakeholder feedback, biodiversity considerations, and how the final design meets shared criteria and constraints.
