Learning Goals
Students will be able to formulate a focused research question about how an environmental variable affects crystal size, shape, or growth rate through controlled investigation
Students will be able to collect and analyze measurements, observation notes, and photographs from multiple crystal-growth trials to identify patterns and anomalous results
Students will be able to construct an evidence-based explanation distinguishing nonliving crystal formation from organism growth influenced by environmental and genetic factors
Students will be able to synthesize findings from several reliable sources and shared trial data to communicate conclusions, limitations, new questions, and reflections on collaboration

Crystal Growth Investigation Notebook and Reflection Poster
Each student documents a focused question, method decisions, source notes, measurements, photographs, observations, personal data analysis, anomalies, limitations, and an evidence-based comparison of crystal and organism growth. A final reflection poster explains how the investigation and collaboration changed the student's understanding of crystal size, shape, growth rate, and scientific inquiry.
Labeled Before-and-After Crystal Growth Investigation Display
Each team creates and presents a labeled display comparing teacher-approved crystal-growth trials through before-and-after photographs, measurements, observation notes, data visualizations, methods, conclusions, anomalies, limitations, and new questions. The display synthesizes individual evidence and explains environmental effects on crystal growth while distinguishing crystal formation from environmentally and genetically influenced organism growth.
