Students will launch the Biosphere 3 challenge by defining the food-system problem, identifying initial criteria and constraints, and recording a baseline concept for later comparison.

Compare & Select
Students will classify organisms, compare multiple food-web concepts, evaluate missing relationships, and use peer feedback and a weighted decision matrix to select and defend a Biosphere 3 design.
Days 2 - 5
Build & Revise
Build & Revise
Students will build, test, critique, and revise a Biosphere 3 model, using peer and community-partner feedback to strengthen its food web, nutrient cycles, Earth-system interactions, and evidence-based defense.
Days 6 - 9
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present and defend their final Biosphere 3 ecosystem designs to an authentic audience, respond to feedback, and reflect on scientific learning and collaboration.
