Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to observe sunny and tree-shaded school spaces using their senses to recognize how tree shade affects how warm or cool a place feels.

2

Students will be able to collect picture-and-mark data about sunny spots, shady spots, and tree locations to investigate where the school may need more trees.

3

Students will be able to describe leaves, bark, and other visible tree features to explain simple signs of tree health and care needs.

4

Students will be able to represent schoolyard observations with drawings, rubbings, symbols, and verbal or signed descriptions to communicate evidence about trees and shade.

5

Students will be able to revise a planting or cooling-spot idea using peer, family, teacher, and community-partner feedback to improve a proposed schoolyard solution.

6

Students will be able to collaborate in displaying tree art and sharing findings to show how the school community can care for trees and create more shade.

My School Tree Investigation Log

Each child creates a picture-based log with sun-or-shade marks, a tree observation drawing or rubbing, a simple tree-care idea, and a revised drawing of where a tree or cooling spot could help. During the exhibition, the child identifies whether selected art is displayed inside or outside and verbally, visually, or through signs shares evidence and reflects on contributing to the class solution.

Cooler Schoolyard Tree Map and Celebration Walk

Teams combine individual evidence into a before-and-after map, mural, or simple model showing trees, hot and cool spots, and a feedback-informed location for a planted tree or cooling area. With adult and community-partner support, children help care for or plant a suitable tree or sapling and guide guests through an indoor-and-outdoor display to share findings, tree needs, revisions, and collaborative decisions.
