Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to observe plants, animals, and habitat features to distinguish evidence from ideas and compare the diversity of life in different habitats.

2

Students will be able to investigate an animal’s need for food, water, shelter, space, and safe places to raise young to explain how a habitat supports survival.

3

Students will be able to document observations, source-based facts, questions, and comparisons to draw an evidence-based conclusion about a chosen habitat.

4

Students will be able to design and revise a labeled habitat sketch showing accurate animals and habitat parts to communicate a research-based plan for a diorama.

5

Students will be able to demonstrate safe use, cleaning, and storage of art and media tools to create and document a habitat model responsibly.

6

Students will be able to categorize and present habitat artwork by theme to explain how a public exhibit can help communities understand and protect animal homes.

Habitat Investigation Notebook, Diorama, and Oral Explanation

Each student compiles observations, research notes, comparisons, questions, a revised labeled sketch, and safe-tool documentation before creating a research-based habitat diorama at home. The student presents the model with an evidence-based animal fact, key survival features, and one way people can protect the habitat.

Comparative Habitat Museum Exhibit and Community Presentation

Teams categorize members’ dioramas by habitat theme, compare evidence about plants and animals, safely create or capture supporting media, and arrange a forest-themed museum display. During Habitat Museum Day, team members share responsibilities and explain how the exhibit’s evidence, artwork, and protection actions can help the community care for animal homes.
