Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to analyze current injustice headlines and historical African American changemaker examples to identify patterns of injustice, response, and root causes and construct warranted cause-and-effect conclusions.

2

Students will be able to investigate how alumni stories, people, places, and African American history influence identity, values, and an emerging role as a changemaker.

3

Students will be able to synthesize inquiry evidence into a revised vision-board self-portrait and justify how its symbols, images, words, and colors communicate identity, strengths, contributions, and a desired change.

Changemaker Investigation Notebook and Vision-Board Self-Portrait

Each student documents a focused question, source-selection decisions, Stories in Motion notes, a root-cause map, alumni-panel reflection, and personal analysis before creating and revising an evidence-based vision-board self-portrait. The submission includes a one-minute declaration and a brief conference or audio reflection explaining one design choice and naming a question for continued investigation.

Past-to-Present Injustice Investigation Briefing

Teams synthesize members’ source notes into a concise visual briefing that explains a past-to-present pattern of injustice, root causes, responses, evidence, conflicting findings, limitations, and a follow-up question. The briefing includes a collective changemaking response map connecting each member’s identity, strengths, portrait symbol, and proposed contribution to the team’s findings.
