Students will be able to collect and record field observations and water or air quality data from two beach sites to document environmental conditions.
Students will be able to compare quantitative and qualitative data tables, graphs, and maps from the two beaches to identify patterns and differences.
Students will be able to analyze evidence about sewage, methane pollution, and beach conditions to explain how geoscience processes and resource distribution affect environmental quality.
Students will be able to construct claim-evidence-reasoning explanations that use site data to justify conclusions about why the two beaches do not experience the same environmental conditions.
Students will be able to evaluate and revise an investigation plan and evidence board based on peer feedback to improve clarity, accuracy, and completeness.
Students will be able to present and defend findings about environmental justice impacts and realistic recommendations for local leaders in an oral town-hall format.

Products
Mystery Beach Investigation Notebook
Each student maintains a research notebook documenting the driving question, observation notes, testing logs, data tables, graph interpretation, CER draft, and reflection. This product demonstrates individual mastery of evidence collection, analysis, and scientific explanation.
Clean Water, Clear Voice Expo Evidence Board and Town Hall Presentation
Teams create an annotated mystery-beach evidence board and present an interactive comparison station plus a mock town hall briefing. The presentation synthesizes shared data, explains environmental justice impacts, addresses limitations, and recommends realistic actions for local leaders.
