Learning Goals
Students will be able to design a teacher-supported investigation comparing seedlings that receive or do not receive water and sunlight while changing one condition and keeping other conditions the same.
Students will be able to collect dated observations of seedling color, height, leaves, and overall condition using drawings, labels, and a picture chart.
Students will be able to conclude how water and sunlight affect plant growth by identifying patterns and supporting a claim with observations from the investigation.
Students will be able to communicate and revise an evidence-based explanation of plant growth through respectful discussion, peer feedback, and reflection.

Water and Sunlight Plant Investigation Journal
Each student creates a dated investigation record containing the class question, a prediction, the planned comparison, picture-based observations, and a personal evidence-based conclusion. The journal also includes quick check-ins and a revision made after teacher or peer feedback.
Plant Investigation Board and Paired Oral Defense
Each pair combines members’ evidence into a before-and-after board comparing water and sunlight conditions, then presents one observation, one evidence-based claim, one limitation or unexpected result, and one new question to classmates, teachers, and Community Schools partners. Partners use their plant cups and individual journals as evidence and complete a gallery walk with one kind note and one science comment.
