How this Plan uses your files

The inventory follows the PDF’s complete source sequence. The Death Valley superbloom anchor, Lesson 4’s two-part light/dark radish investigation, and Lesson 5’s distinct virtual water-and-sunlight experiments are selected because they directly support 2-LS2-1. Lesson 4 begins in Phase 2 and its delayed comparison supplies evidence for Phase 3; the plan’s separate watered/unwatered comparison is a project adaptation, not a procedure contained in the PDF. Lessons 1–3 and the final Death Valley habitats performance task are inventoried but excluded because their seed-dispersal, pollination, and broader habitat outcomes do not fit the selected standard or six-session timeframe. The PDF is an anchor-layer guide rather than the complete lesson package, so referenced lesson videos, printable worksheets, virtual experiment assets, and detailed directions require teacher access or preparation.

  • Lesson 1: How did a tree travel halfway around the world?—Seed Dispersal: Excluded because the seed-dispersal modeling outcome does not directly address the selected 2-LS2-1 investigation, and the six-session timeframe is needed for planting, repeated observations, analysis, and presentation.
  • Lesson 2: Why do seeds have so many different shapes?—Seed Travelers: Excluded because its primary investigation concerns animal seed dispersal rather than whether plants need water and sunlight, and there is insufficient time to conduct it without displacing the required plant-growth investigation.
  • Lesson 3: Why do you find flowers and bees together?—Busy Bees: Excluded because pollination addresses a different performance expectation and cannot fit within the six-session project without reducing time for the required water-and-sunlight investigation.
  • Performance Task: How can anything live in Death Valley?—Water, Plants, Animals, and Habitats: Excluded because the task assesses broad habitat and organism-water relationships beyond the selected plant-growth standard, and the Showcase phase is reserved for the required investigation board, paired oral defense, gallery walk, and reflection.
Launch
Students will launch the investigation by observing a Death Valley superbloom, asking questions about plant growth, and drawing an initial model they will revise as they gather evidence about water and sunlight.
