Launch
Launch
Students will launch the project by analyzing hurricane impacts on Hawaii community systems, considering multiple viewpoints about disaster response, and beginning an engineering design notebook that frames the problem with early criteria, constraints, and civic questions.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will analyze hurricane impacts in Hawaii, learn how policy and community choices shape recovery, define a stakeholder-centered engineering problem, and create a research-based design brief with measurable criteria and constraints that can guide later prototyping.
Days 3 - 8
Prototype & Measure
Prototype & Measure
Students will compare multiple solution ideas, choose one with evidence, build a rapid prototype for a sendable Climate Week product, design a fair test tied to criteria and constraints, and collect organized performance data before moving into revision.
Days 9 - 13
Revise & Showcase
Revise & Showcase
Students will use test evidence and feedback to improve their disaster-resilient designs, retest with the same measures, and prepare an exhibition-ready engineering story and partner-facing message for Climate Week and Hawaii school audiences.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their final disaster-resilient prototypes and engineering evidence to an authentic audience at Climate Week, communicate how policy and community choices shape recovery, and reflect on how their design process, data, and feedback led to a stronger final solution.
