Students will be able to identify stakeholders in a bridge design context and map their needs, questions, and concerns to understand how empathy reveals different perspectives on a constructed environment.
Students will be able to synthesize stakeholder perspectives into an empathy map to define a real-world bridge problem more clearly and evidence-based.
Students will be able to justify how empathy and peer feedback change problem definitions and design decisions for a community bridge project.
Products
Individual Bridge Stakeholder Interview Notes and Empathy Map
Students submit interview-style notes or response notes for at least one stakeholder, then turn that evidence into an individual empathy map for the bridge scenario. The artifact must show how firsthand or scenario-based evidence influenced the student’s problem framing.
Collaborative Bridge Problem Statement and Revised Empathy Map Presentation
Teams create a shared problem statement plus a revised, higher-fidelity empathy map that uses combined evidence to explain stakeholder needs and likely trade-offs. They present how individual insights shaped the team’s final definition of the bridge challenge.
Reversed empathy map
Students will create a reverse engineered empathy map behind a product, a board game, and a piece of media.
Product concepts
Students will create different concepts based off of a given empathy map
Exhibition Empathy Map
Students will create the empathy maps for the exhibition projects
