Students will be able to analyze 8- and 12-bar blues structures in minor keys and explain how repetition, phrasing, and form create mood and tension.
Students will be able to perform minor-key blues riffs on classroom instruments with accurate rhythm, steady pulse, and expressive dynamics.
Students will be able to investigate how post–Civil War blues, the Great Migration, and the Harlem Renaissance shaped Southern and African American musical and storytelling traditions.
Students will be able to identify and use details from Southern and Appalachian ghost folklore to develop a dramatized scene that reflects time, place, and cultural perspective.
Students will be able to develop a character’s inner thoughts, objectives, and tactics in a scripted or improvised ghost-story performance.
Students will be able to refine physical, vocal, and staging choices through feedback so the performance communicates clear mood, tension, and story details to an audience.

Blues-and-Folklore Research Portfolio with Prototype Performance Clip
Each student submits a short research portfolio and a solo prototype clip showing how one blues idea and one ghost-story detail can work together. The portfolio must use firsthand or text-based evidence to define a problem, explain a How Might We statement, and show one revised prototype based on feedback.
Halloween Midnight Blues Exhibition Performance and Shared Artist Statement
Teams present a polished minor-key blues-and-ghost-story performance for families and community guests, supported by a shared problem statement and artist statement. The final work must show how individual research and prototypes shaped the team’s collaborative solution and staging choices.
