Students will launch the investigation by examining mission-era artifacts, images, and route maps, generating focused questions about how movement to California missions changed life for Indigenous communities and newcomers, and setting norms for respectful inquiry that will guide later research and exhibit work.

Students will investigate artifact replicas, historic images, and migration route maps to generate focused questions about mission-era movement, compare perspectives, draft a hypothesis, and build a respectful research plan that includes evidence from sources and questions for a local tribal cultural center educator.

Students will gather and organize evidence from maps, images, short readings, and a community educator interview to document how movement to California missions affected Indigenous communities and newcomers. They will test the clarity, accuracy, and respectfulness of an early mini-exhibit draft through a midpoint gallery walk, use peer feedback to revise, and prepare for deeper analysis in the next phase.

Students will analyze evidence from their mission investigation, compare perspectives, turn research into clear museum-style visuals and claims, revise through peer critique, and finalize evidence-based conclusions with stated source limits before the public exhibit.

Students will present their Mission Stories mini-museum exhibits to families and a local tribal cultural center guest, explain how movement to California missions changed life for Indigenous communities and newcomers, gather authentic audience feedback through a gallery walk, and complete a final evidence-based reflection on conclusions and source limitations.
