Learning Goals
Students will be able to analyze shoreline maps, habitat clues, weather data, and seasonal patterns to predict productive fishing locations and target species.
Students will be able to design and document repeated fishing trials using one gear, bait, or technique change to test which approach improves results under changing conditions.
Students will be able to research local fish species, regulations, and conservation practices to justify responsible fishing choices in a specific waterway.
Students will be able to interpret trial data, photo evidence, and field notes to evaluate patterns, anomalies, and limitations in their fishing investigation.
Students will be able to communicate a weather-and-season decision guide and oral briefing that explains how evidence informed their fishing strategy and conservation-minded decisions.
Products
Personal Fishing Investigation Notebook
A research notebook that documents the student's question, method choices, repeated trials, raw observations, source notes, data tables, photo captions, and personal analysis. It shows how the student refined fishing decisions over time and evaluated limits in the evidence.
Hook, Line, and Learn Field Report Presentation
A formal team presentation and report that combines members' evidence into shared findings, visualizations, conclusions, and limitations. The team must explain why their method fit the question, note anomalies or conflicting results, and propose next questions or responsible fishing actions.
