Learning Goals
Students will be able to partition shapes, classroom objects, and pretend snacks into equal parts and distinguish a fraction from a whole using halves, thirds, and fourths.
Students will be able to compare halves, thirds, and fourths using fraction models and explain which shares are larger or smaller based on the number of equal parts.
Students will be able to design and revise fair-share models for classroom objects and pretend snacks by checking whether each part is equal and whether the share is fair.
Students will be able to use partner discussion, sentence frames, and visual supports to justify fraction thinking and critique whether a model shows equal parts accurately.
Products
Fraction Investigation Notebook
Students record their own questions, model sketches, sorting notes, partner feedback, and short explanations from the fraction stations and snack-share investigations. The notebook shows individual understanding of equal parts, fair shares, and fraction comparisons.
Fair Snack Share Board and Fraction Gallery Presentation
Partners create a labeled snack-share board and brief presentation that explains how they divided pretend snacks fairly, compared fractions, and revised their model after feedback. The team product must include each member’s evidence and a clear explanation of any mistakes, disagreements, or unusual findings.
