Empathize
Empathize
Students will launch the community space design challenge by examining real site maps, photos, and measurement data, listening to a local planning perspective, and producing an initial evidence-based empathy artifact that captures user needs, mathematical constraints, and a first claim about what would make the space more fair and welcoming.
Critique
Critique
Students will use a structured gallery walk and revision conference to critique draft community space plans, give evidence-based feedback on unit rates and proportions, revise their design choices, and document how mathematical reasoning improved fairness, usability, and welcome for different users.
