Learning Goals
Students will be able to analyze how bird nest materials, shape, and placement affect protection, stability, and comfort for eggs.
Students will be able to build and revise a bird nest prototype that meets clear criteria for strength, safety, and comfort.
Students will be able to evaluate competing nest designs using evidence from wind, weight, and shake tests and justify the best solution.
Products
Bird Nest Design Notebook with Decision Matrix
Each student will submit an original design notebook showing at least two nest concepts, annotated sketches, a decision matrix, and a written justification of the final design choice. The notebook must explain how test data and criteria guided the student’s thinking before the team built the final nest.
Tested Bird Nest Prototype and Gallery Walk Defense
Teams will build, test, revise, and present a functional bird nest prototype that performs against the class criteria for strength, safety, and comfort. During the gallery walk, teams will show evidence of testing, explain one redesign based on data, and defend trade-offs in their final solution.
