🚒 Community Shape Mystery Walk
The teacher leads a whole-class photo and video walk using projected images and short clips from the police department, fire station, Asheville Community Theater, and Rueda de Casino de Asheville. Students use shape cards and hand signals to identify circles, triangles, rectangles, cubes, and spheres they notice in signs, vehicles, stages, costumes, and movement formations, then turn and talk with a partner to answer the essential question: how do we see numbers and shapes in our community? The class records evidence on a picture chart with two columns—"What we saw" and "What shape or number we think it is"—so students practice separating observation from inference.
