Learning Goals
Students will be able to model and solve fair-share snack split problems with fractions and mixed numbers using visual fraction models and equations.
Students will be able to compare, add, and subtract fractions with unlike denominators to determine the fairest division of a snack item.
Students will be able to justify and revise a fraction solution using evidence from thumb-rating check-ins, peer feedback, and mathematical reasoning.
Products
Fraction Investigation Notebook
Each student documents one snack-splitting investigation from question to conclusion, including fraction models, equations, data from the team round, and personal analysis. The notebook shows the student’s own reasoning, revisions, and final justified claim about the fairest split.
Snack Division Poster and Gallery Walk Presentation
Teams create a formal poster and short presentation that synthesize each member’s evidence into one fair-share solution for a group of 4. The product must show methods, visual models, calculations, revisions, and a clear explanation of any conflicting or surprising findings.
