  • Invite and confirm the university or community college science partner, share the activity goal in advance, and ask them to prepare brief feedback on sample instruments, measurable weather variables, and common reliability issues.
  • Prepare or gather sample weather station tools or images such as a rain gauge, thermometer, wind vane, barometer, or hygrometer for the science partner discussion.
  • Review notes or artifacts from the previous weather mystery walk so you can prompt connections between student observations and possible community weather questions.
  • Create a visible question-tuning anchor with criteria for clear, scoped, measurable, and community-relevant questions.
  • Prepare 2–3 sample weather questions, including at least one that is too broad and one that is measurable, for the opening modeling step.

As you listen to the science partner, your task is to notice which kinds of questions can realistically be investigated with weather station tools and reliable data. Next, you will revise your draft and join a fast peer-feedback round where you give feedback to 2 peers and receive feedback on your own question. Finally, you will write a revised Day 1 version of your question, explain why it matters to your community and how it connects to the larger project focus, and close with a reflection naming one scientific insight and one teamwork strength to record in your notebook. Your goal is to leave with a question that you can actually investigate over the next weeks of the project.
