Students will be able to observe butterflies and butterfly habitats by noticing details in pictures, videos, and outdoor walk observations.

Students will be able to build and revise a butterfly home diorama by including accurate habitat features that support butterfly growth and survival.

Students will be able to communicate butterfly investigation findings by drawing, dictating, and orally explaining what butterflies need to grow and stay alive.

Butterfly Investigation Notebook

Students complete a weekly investigation notebook with drawings, dictated notes, picture sorts, and simple observations from butterfly photos, videos, and habitat walks. The notebook shows each child’s understanding of the life cycle, habitat needs, and how their thinking changed over time.

team

Garden of Growing Butterflies Habitat Presentation

Small teams present a shared butterfly habitat display and short explanation that combines each member’s evidence, including observations, model features, and questions. The presentation must explain how the habitat supports butterflies, note any surprising or conflicting observations, and name one new question for further investigation.
