Students begin with a short schoolyard or nearby-block insect search using phones or tablets for photos, collection jars only when appropriate, and field note sheets for habitat details. Back in class, teams sort first finds by visible traits, add tentative labels to a shared collection board, and discuss how observation can shape both scientific identification and creative choices for an eventual audience. The teacher introduces the essential question and prompts students to surface assumptions about what viewers might notice, misunderstand, or care about in an insect exhibit.
