Learning Goals
Students will be able to solve farm stand addition and subtraction number stories within 20 using counters, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown.
Students will be able to represent farm stand word problems with objects, drawings, and equations to show their mathematical thinking.
Students will be able to interpret unknowns in addition and subtraction equations to find missing amounts in farm stand situations.
Students will be able to explain how their solution helps the farm stand decide what to add, take away, or compare.
Students will be able to revise a solved farm stand number story after teacher feedback to improve accuracy and clarity.

Farm Stand Math Investigation Notebook
Each student completes a research-style notebook with one mystery order, method notes, drawings or counters, equations, and a short reflection. It shows how the student developed, solved, checked, and revised a farm stand number story using evidence from their work.
Running the Farm Stand Investigation Poster and Oral Report
Small groups create a formal poster and short presentation that synthesize members' solved stories into shared findings about farm stand choices. The team must compare strategies, explain their methods, include any mistakes or surprising results, and show how math helped the stand run well.
