Using notebook evidence, teams draft a stakeholder-centered problem statement and measurable criteria for survival, safety, and growth over time. The teacher provides a model for writing criteria with quantities, conditions, and limits, and teams build a first design brief section for water, food, shelter, air, and energy. Students also name at least two constraints tied to resources, temperature, radiation, gravity, space, or power.
