Students use notes from the challenge to create an individual annotated colony sketch in their Mars Colony Design Notebook, labeling first ideas for water, food, shelter, air, and energy systems. After a brief model of measurable criteria and constraints, teams compare sketches, identify common priorities, and draft a shared team norm card plus an initial question list for Phase 2 investigations. Each student ends with a short mission check-in naming one survival insight, one failed idea, and one collaboration move they used.
