Using picture-based interview prompts, students talk with the visiting grocery store manager and food pantry staff member in a teacher-facilitated whole-group interview to learn how families find healthy food, what makes access easier or harder, and what foods are low cost in the community. Students then help create a class empathy map with four labeled sections—say, need, feel, and find—adding simple drawings, dictated notes, and at least two direct quotes from the visitors. To close, each child adds one journal sentence or dictated response about why nutrition matters and what can happen when people do not get the food they need.
