Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to equip students with the skills to analyze career interests through primary and secondary sources, understanding the impact of technological changes on job markets. Students will develop critical thinking and effective communication skills by interviewing community members and creating informative brochures. This project fosters self-directed learning as students reflect on their career paths and make informed decisions about future job opportunities.

Learning goals

Students will develop research skills to effectively gather and analyze primary and secondary sources related to career interests and technological changes. They will enhance their communication abilities through interviews, presentations, and creating informative brochures. Critical thinking will be fostered as students explore how technological advancements impact job markets and identify essential skills for adapting to these changes. Collaboration will be emphasized through peer co-design and shared decision-making in project creation. Self-directed learning will be cultivated as students reflect on their career aspirations and the best-fit job based on their research findings.

Products

Students will create an informative brochure that outlines career options and the impact of technological changes, aimed at guiding younger students in their career decision-making. They will also compile a report detailing interview results and personal reflections on career interests and choices. Additionally, students will produce a presentation or essay summarizing job recommendations and their personal best career choice based on research findings.

Launch

Begin with a short documentary on technological change and AI to spark curiosity and provide context. Follow this with a hands-on activity where students bring objects representing technological development, fostering discussion on how these advancements have impacted careers. Facilitate group brainstorming sessions to identify initial career interests and questions they hope to explore, setting the stage for deeper investigation.

Exhibition

Students will host a career fair at the school, where they will present their brochures to younger students, parents, and community partners. Each student will have a booth displaying their research findings, interview insights, and personal reflections on career choices. The event will include interactive discussions, allowing attendees to ask questions and engage with the students about the impact of technological changes on career paths.
