PS.2.A
Project Launch
Essential Question
Teams complete a rapid design challenge using cardboard, paper towel tubes, rubber bands, tape, and marbles to build a mini ride inspired by themes from The Great Gatsby. After testing, students discuss how ambition and illusion were represented physically and how the prototype did or did not meet imagined rider needs. The teacher introduces the Essential Question and explains that future designs must begin with real user research, not assumptions.

Student-facing instructions
Your task is to work in teams to design a mini theme park ride prototype using the provided materials. You will explore how themes from The Great Gatsby can be represented physically in your design. Gather your materials, build your prototype, test it, and discuss how ambition and illusion are reflected in your ride. Reflect on how your design meets the needs of imagined riders.
