Students will encounter a real historical controversy about the primary cause of the American Revolution, analyze competing perspectives from diverse groups, and commit to an initial evidence-based claim that they will test and refine throughout the project.

Students will systematically gather, evaluate, and organize evidence about the causes of the American Revolution, including evidence that challenges their initial position. They will complete a structured 2-column evidence log with credibility analysis and identify the strongest counterargument to their claim in preparation for building a formal argument.

Students will organize their researched evidence into a structured Claim-Evidence-Reasoning argument, engage deeply with counterarguments, receive and give peer feedback, and produce a revised full draft that prepares them for public defense during the Revolutionary Timeline Walk.

Students will publicly defend their evidence-based claims about the most significant cause of the American Revolution, respond to live challenges using specific sources, and reflect on how their thinking evolved from initial position to final defense during the Revolutionary Timeline Walk exhibition.
