Students will launch the Fraction Carnival project by engaging in hands-on fraction challenges and conducting firsthand user research with grocery store partners to understand real-world needs around comparing and generating equivalent fractions.

Students will synthesize their grocery store user interviews and Fraction Hunt evidence into a clear, research-based problem statement that defines a specific user need related to comparing and generating equivalent fractions.

Students will generate a wide range of interactive Fraction Carnival game ideas grounded in real grocery store user needs, then narrow to their strongest concepts using user-based criteria and create annotated concept sketches that will guide prototyping.

Students will build and test a rapid paper prototype of their Fraction Carnival game, gather real user feedback connected to comparing and generating equivalent fractions, and revise their design based on evidence before moving to a higher-fidelity version in the next phase.

Students will validate their refined Fraction Carnival games with an authentic audience, then present their full design story—from grocery store user research to final iteration—demonstrating mastery of comparing and generating equivalent fractions.
