Students will investigate how real people use rounding in everyday life by participating in a hands-on scavenger hunt and conducting brief interviews to create an empathy map grounded in real evidence.

Students will synthesize their user interview notes about real-life rounding situations to define a clear, evidence-based problem statement. They will identify patterns in user needs, craft a focused "How Might We" question, and justify it with place value reasoning connected to rounding to the nearest ten or hundred.

Students will generate and refine multiple solution ideas that help a real user use place value understanding to round numbers to the nearest ten and hundred in everyday situations, selecting top concepts to prototype next.

Students will build and revise a testable rounding toolkit prototype that helps a real user group (such as busy shoppers) round numbers to the nearest ten or hundred, document peer testing feedback, and clearly explain how place value understanding shaped their revisions.

Students will validate their rounding toolkit with an authentic audience and present how user research, feedback, and place value understanding shaped their final design.
