Learning Goals
Students will be able to plan and conduct a comparative investigation of water and sand to determine how type of matter affects temperature change.
Students will be able to graph and analyze temperature data from water and sand samples to identify patterns in heat absorption and release.
Students will be able to communicate evidence-based conclusions about how Earth's water affects temperature fluctuations and climate patterns.
Products
Water vs. Sand Lab Report and Data Graph Portfolio
Each student will submit a completed lab report with a temperature graph, data table, and written conclusion from the water-and-sand investigation. The portfolio demonstrates individual understanding of thermal energy transfer and the relationship between material type and temperature change.
Earth's Water Wonders Science Fair Exhibit Board
Teams will create a science fair display that presents their investigation setup, data, graph, and a shared explanation of how water affects temperature regulation on Earth. The exhibit must support a live presentation to community visitors and show collaborative application of the findings.
