Question
Question
Students will encounter surprising images and public misconceptions about the Hubble Space Telescope, generate and refine investigable survey questions about community knowledge, and produce a focused research question with a clear hypothesis to guide their week-long investigation.
Day 1
Design
Design
Students will design a systematic, survey-based investigation to examine public knowledge and misconceptions about the Hubble Space Telescope. They will align their methodology to their research question, justify their sampling and data collection strategies, peer review one anotherβs plans, and revise before collecting any data.
Day 2
Collect
Collect
Students will systematically collect and document survey data about public knowledge of the Hubble Space Telescope, following their approved methodology plans. They will prioritize accurate record-keeping, document collection conditions and anomalies, and conduct quality checks to ensure their evidence base is strong enough for meaningful analysis in the next phase.
Day 3
Analyze
Analyze
Students will transform their collected Hubble knowledge survey data into meaningful visualizations, identify patterns and anomalies, debate interpretations with peers, and draft evidence-based preliminary findings that connect directly to their original research question and hypothesis.
Day 4
Conclude
Conclude
Students will synthesize their Hubble survey investigations by writing evidence-based conclusions, explicitly acknowledging limitations, generating new research questions, and presenting their full investigationβfrom question through methodology, data, analysis, and conclusionsβto an authentic audience during the Universe Unveiled Fair.
