Discover
Students will investigate a puzzling post-storm marine phenomenon affecting New Hampshire coastal ecosystems, analyze initial evidence, and develop focused, investigable research questions with testable hypotheses that will guide their individual Marine Storm Impact Research Notebooks and future SeaPerch investigations.
Days 1 - 2
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Examine
Students will conduct deep background research and design rigorous, peer-reviewed investigation plans aligned to their storm-response research questions. They will analyze scientific literature, identify variables and methods that match their question type, and produce a detailed methodology plan that includes quality control measures before any data collection begins.
Days 3 - 10
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Engineer
Students will systematically collect high-quality data aligned to their approved storm-impact or ROV performance research questions, document collection conditions and anomalies, conduct quality checks, and demonstrate readiness to move into formal analysis.
Days 11 - 15
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Do
Students will transform raw storm simulation and SeaPerch testing data into meaningful scientific interpretations by creating visualizations, identifying patterns and anomalies, challenging one another’s reasoning, and determining whether their evidence supports, contradicts, or complicates their original hypotheses about marine ecosystem stability and storm response solutions.
Days 16 - 17
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Share
Students will synthesize their full investigation—from research question through methodology, data, analysis, conclusions, and limitations—and present their SeaPerch storm-response findings to an authentic New Hampshire audience. They will defend causal claims with evidence, acknowledge limitations honestly, generate new investigable questions, and reflect on their growth as marine science investigators.
