Products

Students will create Kehinde Wiley-inspired portraits featuring prominent Black figures, showcasing vibrant colors and intricate symbolic backgrounds that reflect each figure's legacy. Accompanying each portrait, students will display a well-researched narrative that highlights the influence and contributions of the chosen figures, fostering an appreciation for cultural diversity. These artworks will be featured in a community exhibit, offering a visual storytelling experience that invites reflection and discussion among attendees.

Kick off the project with a 'Cultural Canvas Workshop,' where students collaboratively design mood boards that reflect Black culture, history, and contemporary figures. Use images, text, and multimedia resources to inspire discussions and creative thinking. This activity will set the stage for students' personal exploration of meaningful figures they will portray, building excitement and a sense of purpose for their artistic journey.

Exhibition

Students will host a 'Portraits of Impact' exhibition at a local community center, inviting families and community members to view and celebrate their Kehinde Wiley-inspired portraits. Each portrait will be accompanied by a researched narrative detailing the significance of the depicted figure's contributions to Black history and culture. Students will also engage the audience with storytelling sessions and discussions about their artistic choices, fostering a community-wide dialogue on representation and diversity in art.
