Students engage in a structured conversation with at least one visiting or virtual local musician and one additional community member (e.g., teacher, family member). Students ask prepared open-ended questions about how music reflects community identity, challenges local musicians face, and how music can address community needs. Students record quotes and observations in notebooks, audio notes, or picture-based logs.

Preparation (3 items)
- Set up the seating arrangement to facilitate dialogue with the guests and ensure audio equipment is ready for recording.
- Prepare anchor charts with sample questions and visual aids illustrating community and music connections.
- Ensure each student has a notebook, pencils, and colorful markers for documenting observations.
Student-facing instructions
Your task is to listen carefully to the musician and community member as they share their experiences with music and community. You will ask questions, write down interesting ideas in your notebook, and draw what music means to the community. Together, we'll discuss how these ideas can help create our own musical pieces.
