Empathize
Students will launch the Number Adventure project by meeting real users, practicing how to ask strong math interview questions, and creating empathy maps based on firsthand conversations about what makes 3-digit addition and subtraction challenging or helpful to learn.
Day 1
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Define
Students will analyze their empathy interviews from classmates and family members to identify patterns in how people understand 3-digit addition and subtraction. They will synthesize these insights into a clear, user-centered “How Might We” problem statement that guides the design of their Math Fair booths and individual strategy posters.
Day 2
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Ideate
Students will generate many possible interactive booth ideas to help real visitors understand 3-digit addition and subtraction strategies, then narrow their ideas to the strongest concepts grounded in user needs and math understanding.
Day 3
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Prototype
Students will build, test, and revise low- and higher-fidelity prototypes of their 3-digit addition and subtraction booths and posters, documenting how user feedback shapes their design decisions before the Math Fair and Number Adventure Exhibit.
Day 4
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
Test/Present
Students will conduct a final user test of their interactive math booths, revise based on authentic feedback, and present their design journey and addition/subtraction strategies at a Math Fair and Number Adventure Exhibit for families and community members.
Day 5
No activities have been added to this phase yet.
