Question
Students will experience surprising scent-emotion connections, build foundational understanding of how smell travels to the brain, and develop focused, investigable research questions that will guide their scent investigations throughout the project.
Day 1
Design
Students will design a systematic, controlled investigation to answer their scent and emotion research question by identifying variables, planning procedures, creating data collection tools, and preparing for accurate and ethical data gathering.
Day 2
Collect
Students will systematically collect emotion and memory response data related to specific scents using their planned methodology, record results in structured tables, and demonstrate accurate, controlled data collection practices before moving to analysis.
Day 3
Analyze
Students will analyze their collected scent experiment data by organizing results into bar graphs, identifying patterns and trends, interpreting evidence in relation to their research questions, and engaging in structured peer review to strengthen the accuracy and clarity of their analysis before drawing final conclusions in the next phase.
Days 4 - 5
Conclude
Students will finalize evidence-based conclusions about how specific scents influenced emotions and memories, acknowledge limitations in their investigations, and present their findings to an authentic audience during the Scentology Science Fair.
