Students will investigate how real audiences experience science exhibits and explore how periodic trends and electron structure shape the real-world roles of elements. Through direct user research, empathy mapping, and initial element analysis, students will ground their interactive museum designs in authentic user needs and scientific understanding.

Students will synthesize user research and scientific analysis to define a clear, user-centered design challenge for their Elemental Expo booth. They will connect periodic trends and electron structure to real-world applications, identify criteria and constraints for their live demonstration, and produce a refined problem statement that guides ideation.

Students will generate and refine multiple interactive exhibit concepts for their selected element, using periodic trends and electron structure to guide scientifically accurate, human-centered design decisions before moving into prototyping.

Students will construct and refine testable versions of their Elemental Expo booths, integrating accurate periodic trends, electron structure explanations, and safe live demonstration plans while iterating based on structured peer feedback.

Students will validate and present their interactive periodic table museum exhibits to authentic users during the Elemental Expo, demonstrate scientific mastery through live chemical demonstrations, collect and analyze user feedback, and reflect on how chemical diversity and periodic trends explain their element’s role in daily life.
